Analytical results are no better than the samples from which they are obtained. Efforts taken to assure that sample materials are well preserved during shipping and handling are well spent.
In general, aluminum foil (ordinary household type) is by far the preferred packing material. Plastic bags and wraps are coated with waxy substances which are particularly objectionable for the more surface-sensitive analytical techniques, such as Auger, ESCA, and FTIR.
Foil is also an excellent material to use with static-sensitive microelectronics. The conductive foams and plastic wraps made for this purpose are often heavily treated and are a major source of interferences.
Samples which require refrigeration, or are otherwise perishable, should be clearly marked as such, and shipped very promptly. It is also important to advise us if you wish to have the samples returned to you under refrigeration, so we can make the necessary arrangements after the analysis are completed.
Analytical Answers, Inc
We have a very strict policy concerning potentially biohazardous materials. Samples of medical products and devices, even unused ones , require either a statement of non-hazard or a certificate of sterilization. Please contact us if you need further details.
We return all unused portions of samples following analysis, unless instructed (in writing) to do otherwise. Materials which require special packing and labeling will incur (possibly substantial) additional costs. Check with your shipper to see if sending us the necessary return packaging and labels along with the samples is a less costly way to do this.
A last word: Please mark your samples plainly and clearly with the identification you wish us to use in our photographs, spectra, and reports. An excellent analysis of a misidentified sample is at best confusing, and if not recognized, seriously misleading. Just a little care taken in the initial packaging and shipping will enable us to provide the highest quality results with unambiguous identifications.
